This month I am working on the fun and athletic drum solo. Some dancers seem to have a gift for these types of pieces and others dancers (myself included) find them very challenging. So this month I want to improve my drum solo choreography, technique and performance.

Step one is to learn or review the basic rhythms used in arabic music. I am going to pick up my drum and start practicing. Being able to perform a good drum solo is about anticipating the music, so it is important that you know the rhythms.

Below is a video on basic drumming and a great website for the beginner drummer.

Also please check out my previous post on zills.

The month has just started so there is plenty more to come.

  1. The other day I was talking to one of my fellow dancers and she said she thought this was a genuine difficult thing to master. I’ve forwarded your entry to her 🙂
