May is for the Drum Solo
This month I am working on the fun and athletic drum solo. Some dancers seem to have a gift for these types of pieces and others dancers (myself included) find them very challenging. So this month I want to improve my drum solo choreography, technique and performance.
Step one is to learn or review the basic rhythms used in arabic music. I am going to pick up my drum and start practicing. Being able to perform a good drum solo is about anticipating the music, so it is important that you know the rhythms.
Below is a video on basic drumming and a great website for the beginner drummer.

The month has just started so there is plenty more to come.

The other day I was talking to one of my fellow dancers and she said she thought this was a genuine difficult thing to master. I’ve forwarded your entry to her 🙂
